Biceps Tendon Injuries

The biceps tendon is the tendon that adheres one side inside the shoulder joint and the other side to the front of the elbow. This tendon has important tasks such as lifting the shoulder joint forward and lifting weights. It manifests itself with pain that increases with shoulder movements as a result of strenuous movements, heavy training and repetitive traumas. After some traumas, rupture of the biceps muscle can also be seen, in which case it is called “popeye arm” because it is likened to the arm of the popeye.

While the diagnosis is made with special tests performed in clinical examination, sometimes imaging such as USG or MRI can be used.  Generally, simple drug treatments can pass with cold applications, but sometimes physiotherapy and injections are applied. In some stubborn cases, arthroscopic surgery is performed. While fixation can be performed according to the procedure performed after surgery, physical therapy can also be performed for early return. Heavy exercise and repetitive traumas should be avoided to prevent this injury.
