PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

PRP (platelet rich plasma), or platelet rich plasma in Turkish, is a method that is prepared from the patient’s own blood and can be used in many parts of the body with developing technology, accelerating and triggering regeneration. Special methods are prepared by taking the patient’s own blood. Orthopedics has also taken its place in joint renewal, ligament regeneration, soft tissues and anti-edema treatment. Healing is achieved by growth factors in plasma.

Is PRP a medicine?

It is definitely not a medicine. It does not contain anything other than the patient’s own blood products. It is for regional use and has no systemic application. Recently, application areas with hyaluronic acid and ozone gas have emerged in intra-articular injections.

Are Prp and stem cells the same?

It’s definitely not the same thing. While Prp contains very few stem cells, stem cell applications are taken from bone marrow or fat tissue. While Prp application is based on growth factors, stem cell application is based on the activities of basic stem cells. Prp applications provide both economical and ease of use. It is necessary to carefully evaluate the indications of both applications.

Is PRP doping?

The use of PRP as an injection in the musculoskeletal system has been excluded from the scope of prohibited substances and practices by the International Olympic Committee’s World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and is not considered doping. Since it is not a drug excreted in urine, it is not possible to identify it in doping tests.
