Hallux Valgus

Hallux valgus is a condition where the big toe (hallux) deviates outward (valgus). The exact causes of this condition are not fully understood, but factors such as modern sedentary lifestyles, ill-fitting shoes, and prolonged periods spent wearing shoes can contribute to its development. Since it is one of the weight-bearing areas, problems in this area can affect the entire body. While the early stages of the condition may only result in cosmetic issues, more severe problems can develop as it progresses. Hallux valgus can affect individuals of all age groups.

Symptoms of hallux valgus can include redness, occasional warmth, reduced flexibility, pain, and deformity of the big toe.

Diagnosis is typically made through a physical examination, and X-rays can provide valuable information about the condition and help determine the course of treatment.

The treatment of the disease should be determined based on the degree of the condition. In the early stages, night splints and silicone toe separators may be used, while in more advanced stages, surgical treatment options are considered. After treatment, it is important to change old habits to prevent the condition from recurring.
