In high-energy injuries, complete ankle joint disruption can occur. In these fractures, a computed tomography (CT) scan can be useful to visualize the full anatomy, and in these fractures, full anatomical restoration should be achieved. Ankle fractures are named according to their location. Fractures on the inner side of the ankle are called medial malleolus fractures, while fractures on the outer side beneath the fibula bone are called lateral malleolus fractures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If ankle injuries occur with high-energy mechanisms, ankle joint fractures and dislocations can occur, and in such cases, the talus bone can also be damaged. Therefore, in these types of injuries, achieving full anatomical alignment is essential to prevent early osteoarthritis. Early osteoarthritis can lead to gait abnormalities, pain, and even joint fusion surgery. Treatments can be applied in a fully open or semi-open manner, depending on the type of fracture and the surgical method used. The recovery time is determined based on the type of fracture and the surgical technique. Physical therapy should be initiated early to prevent mobility limitations.
