In high-energy injuries, the ankle joint alignment can be completely disrupted. In these fractures, a computerized tomography (CT) scan can be beneficial under necessary conditions to visualize the full anatomy, and complete anatomical restoration should be achieved in such fractures. Ankle fractures are named based on their location. Fractures on the inner side of the ankle are referred to as medial malleolus fractures, while fractures at the lower end of the fibula bone on the outer side are called lateral malleolus fractures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In cases where ankle injuries occur due to high-energy traumas, ankle joint fractures and dislocations can occur, and in such cases, the talus (dome) bone can also be damaged. Therefore, in these types of injuries, achieving full anatomical alignment is necessary to prevent early osteoarthritis. Early osteoarthritis can lead to gait disturbances, pain, and even joint fusion surgery. Treatments can be applied as fully open or semi-open procedures. The recovery period is determined based on the type of fracture and the surgical method used. To avoid mobility restrictions, physical therapy should begin in the early stages.
