Although it is a congenital condition, these shape abnormalities are generally diagnosed during infancy. These shape abnormalities can manifest as scoliosis and kyphosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Excessive hair growth in the lumbar region, skin problems, deformities in the back, and balance issues may arise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The frequency of congenital scoliosis increases when associated with other organ anomalies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congenital scoliosis is generally progressive. There may not always be a sign during infancy. As growth continues, the curvature increases. Therefore, early diagnosis and monitoring are crucial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since nerve system abnormalities may accompany the deformity in these cases, it is important to be cautious when dealing with infants with congenital scoliosis who have neurological problems in the early period. Factors such as the type of deformity, its location, age, and other considerations are evaluated together to provide information about the course of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the diagnosis of congenital scoliosis is made, the patient is thoroughly consulted to determine if there are any other anomalies. Additionally, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans of the entire spine are performed to investigate any accompanying spinal cord problems. Follow-ups should be conducted every 6 months, and if there is progression during follow-ups, timely surgical intervention can prevent further progression. The goal of treatment is to diagnose early and, if surgical treatment is necessary, to correct it early, prevent deformity if it has not developed, maintain the growth potential of the spine, ensure the development of the chest cage, and preserve lung-heart functions. Although there are many treatment methods for congenital scoliosis cases, the treatment should be decided based on the abnormalities in the patient.
