The neck region is the most mobile part of the spine. Discs are located between the vertebrae. These discs are rich in connective tissue. They act as cushions for the spine, absorbing vertically applied forces. In the neck region, we generally encounter disc problems and canal stenosis. Non-surgical treatments (medication, physical therapy, injections) are usually preferred. If there is muscle weakness, atrophy, or loss of strength, it is necessary to relieve the compressed nerve.

Canal stenosis

This is generally a clinical condition that occurs after degenerative processes. The goal of surgery is to relieve the compressed nerve from pressure. After nerve decompression is performed, cervical disc prosthesis or fusion (freezing) surgery is performed, taking into account the patient’s age, occupation, and social activities. Cervical disc prosthesis is generally preferred in young, active patients because it does not restrict movement.

Cervical (neck) diseases When we consider the spine as a whole, the cervical region includes the uppermost 7 vertebrae.
